Hi Debby

Thanks for notes. I’ll leaving July 5 for East Coast in Mooney, several mtgs back east in ME, NH then NJ to see parents. Flying back on July 12 (Sun). Unfortunately really should come straight back, so I’ll have to pass on the stop this time I think.

Cheers,

Tim Kress Class of 1965

Had a surprise phone call this evening from Tim Kress, Class of '65. We talked for almost 2 hours. He's in La Conner , WA on an island where he practices chiropractic medicine.
In high school, Tim and I were friends but became, I would say, soul mates during college years and into establishment times, whatever that means.
We always used to laugh together and we did some of that on the phone. It was great to hear his voice.
Now we are trying to figure out how we can connect in person.

Cindy Greenhalgh Torelli

Cindy is alive and well and living in Jamesville, NY. We spoke today and tried to catch up a little. Cindy is a ceramic artist and works with nationally known artist Margie Hughto. I once took a pottery class from Margie.

It was great to talk with Cindy and I'm going to try and get her caught up on the blog and everyone I'm in touch with.

Ed Sullivan and the show of shows

Maria Pulos Levy

Thanks for keeping in touch. I have been tracking my sister, Demetra, as she is driving across the country from Colorado Springs to her new residence in Portland, Maine. In fact, she is in Syracuse as I write this and says it is lovely there. She went to the family favorite, Scotch & Sirloin, last night. In three weeks I will be in Florida with my daughter, Colbert, Nancy and Keely and hopefully Harriet and Kristina and Barb and Kerry. We are hoping to see Suzette Welch as well.
Take care and thanks again for keeping up the great blog. I loved reading about Bix. Good job in finding him!

Healing with Lavender

This is the best time to find fresh lavendar. It's blooming right now and it's healing properties are at their most potent.

Dog and Cat Owners

What do you use to cut your cat's and dog's nails? I've used the standard clippers and feel like I'm amputating my own fingers when I use it. I decided to try the Dremel Pet Nail Groomer after I watched my Vet use it. It was fast and efficient. However, the dog, my Dal, Savana had to be sedated to use it. Since I have the puppy, the breeder said to make sure I cut the sharp little nails every week. Thus, the purchase for the puppy.
Well, the only way John and I are able to get near Mavis is to feed her a corn check and then use the grinder and keep doing that. I hope it gets easier. This is not a commercial for Dremel, just an experience.

Hi Deb,
Wow you sure have been busy with you mom, good for you. I wish I still had my parents but age finally caught up with them in the late 90’s.
Life is good in retirement. We spent a week in Zihuatanejo , Mexico last month mostly just relaxing and sitting on the beach. Since July is a great month in Huntington Beach we usually stay home. August is another story. We have rented a beach house on the Jersey shore to entertain all the kids and grandkids for a week. Even rented a charter boat for deep sea fishing!
September we are doing another cruise to several Mexican vacation ports (would be Europe but the dollar sucks over there).
Finally in October Mike (MTB Racer) is finally getting married………… Well there you have it!
Enjoy life, Love what you do and do what you love is my new motto!

Message from Dave:

I’ll try to post something from Uganda after I get there … like me kissing a gorilla or something.

Things are o.k. I am in the process of working with my doctor to determine whether or not I need new knees! Other than that, things are pretty cool. My husband is training for the Missouri 340 which takes place July 15-18. If you have not heard about it, this is a canoe/kayak race from Kansas City to St. Charles on the Missouri River (340 miles; hence the name). It’s pretty exciting. Our daughter will be taking the week off to be his pit crew and will be crewing with an officer from the MU Police. I will be checking in from time to time but will not be crewing for the whole thing. We have been keeping busy biking and swimming. Trying to maintain some level of fitness “just in case.” Our granddaughter is off to horse camp this week and is, I am sure, having a ball. Everyone else is well and keeping busy.

Hi Debby,

Arrived safely from India. what an experience! Now I have to apply some of what I learned.
Alas! This weekend I am participating in a big music conference in Utah.

Check it out at: www.usu.edu/mountainwest/songfest.html

In May, I gave a lecture and concert in Charleston: www.cofc.edu/ase//program.html

The rest of the summer is pretty low key with teaching a summer school course on Hinduism. This Fall I will be at Tulane in New Orleans too.

All the best,

Guy

My Puppy

My puppy Mavis is getting a growth spurt. I had to loosen her collar today. Her legs are suddenly taller. That's our Lab, Bailey.

Rick Cook

Just heard from Rick. He's been called back to work by Chevron and is back in Dinosaur, CO for sometime now. We spoke by phone and he had just arrived. He and his wife Maureen were planning a fishing trip and then we were hoping to all meet in St. Louis. So we shall see.

Hi Debby,
I'm into my Wyoming Shakespeare Festival activities now- just finished building the set, and closing in on dress rehearsal. Our first show is a week from now, then we perform and tour for a month. Also running for the Wyoming House of Representatives, so I don't have to worry about boredom!
Best wishes,
David

Am planning a huge family reunion for my Mom in Sept in NC. We have been having work done on the house and yard and we moved our daughter to Denver. Our son got engaged and we are now planning a wedding to take place in Denver.
I still think of you often but I haven't been to St. Louis in a couple of years. We drove through when we went to the Indy 500 this year.
Here is a picture of my Poppy field. We are also having work done on th pool just to keep me busy. I think we share a love for gardens. I checked your website before and saw your beautiful pictures.
Have a happy day.
Charlene

Bob Gwinn

We just moved into a new house and I'm up to my eyeballs in projects plus working part time at Nechville Music in Bloominton MN (Mall of America territory) putting banjos together. I just got back from Grass Vally California where I represented the banjo company and connected with my brother who runs a music store in San Diego. Some of my buddies from NY plan to come out to MN in August and we will be heading for the Missouri River in Montana for a 5 day paddle along the Lewis and Clark route. The best part of living out here of course is connecting with my granddaughter who is nearly 2 years old. I'll try to send pictures at some point.I'm impressed with your hard work with the class website and the communication efforts within the class.
Thanks!
Bob

The Benham Brothers

Jason and David Benham are twin sons of our classmate Flip Benham. They are owners of The Benham Real Estate Group and their business is featureded in Cabarrus Business Magazine.

Flip Benham

The family and I are doing very well thank you. We are in the midst of preparing for our “National Event” in Atlanta, Georgia this summer. You can find out a lot about what is happening with us by going to our website: Operationsaveamerica.org.
I so appreciated reading about the way you have been taking care of your mom. The willingness to lay your life down for the benefit of others (it is the way God made mothers) is marvelous to behold.
Keep shining brightly Debby!
In Christian love,

Flip

Debby Larus Doolittle

This is the weekend.
I'm flying to NC on Friday. On Sunday I fly back with my mother. I made the flight reservations before the baggage fees started so I won't have to pay $15 per bag.
It's been a lot of work behind the scenes to get everything ready for her. I've had to set up a new apartment in an assisted living residence about 7 miles from the house. I've had to do a lot of running around. When I call my mother during the day I tell her about all the activity concerning her. She's not real sure what she should be doing about getting ready but senses that I've had my hands full so she thanks me for all the trouble. With her dementia we've covered this road a few times.
It will be nice to have her close by. Am looking forward to taking our new puppy Mavis over to see her once she is settled.
I will be gone through Sunday. Unless someone posts something, I will not be available to post to the blog.

Hi Debby,
I'm glad to hear you're not waterlogged. Things don't look too good elsewhere over there however.I am still planning on going to Alaska, but with the fuel costs as they are, I'm not certain if will be able to afford it anymore. I was going to drive and then take the ferry, but it was pretty costly before and now it's getting really bad. I might still make it back to Manlius this year, but I'm not sure.I saw that Sandy had posted the get-together of the Western division of the Class of 66 on the Blog. It was great fun. We reminisced a bit, laughed at Ted a bit ( I sort of remember him after having met him) and it was great to talk to Wayne and Sue and hear about their exploits. Life seems to be beginning to get back to normal for them. They are in the process of starting to rebuild in between their worldwide trips( Poland and Russia and then Australia I think) They must live one of those " if it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium " lives. I am jealous.Oh well, glad to hear you're OK at this point. Take care and write back if you get the chance.

I am fine. Work is a bit over the top right now. Just too much to do and too many orders. Based on what I hear from others we are lucky and I really should not complain. I am just too old to be working 7 days a week.

We leave for Paris one month from today. Glad to see the exchange rate for the Euro doing so well. I wanted to bring $5,000 in cash with me and to do so is going to take about $8,250 US. Man, last time I was in Paris it was almost 1:1. It has been exceptionally hot here for the last 3 days, 90+ every day. A big front came through last night and it is only 71 today, so everyone is freezing.

Moving my son to Durham NC at the end of July where he will commence work on his PHD in Microbiology. Will be driving my daughter to NYC in early August so she can spend 2 weeks visiting two school friends in Bangladesh. I am not too thrilled about that.

Nothing much other than that. Just putting one foot in front of the other and hoping to make it to vacation.

Deb…

Just took some time tonight to cruise the blog back for the last several months. Wow!! You have done such a great job bringing all of us together! Thanks for all your efforts, and for sticking to it for so many months.

Not much new to report from AZ, except that Marsha and I are still great, now with 7 grandchildren from ages 11 down to 3, it’s now about 104 degrees every day in Phoenix, and I am finally back to work as Director of Marketing and Advertising for a company called “Slingshot” that is rolling out a new broadband wireless internet service this summer. Watch for us at stores like Costco and Best Buy, and by September, on the radio and the internet at http://www.slingshot.com/. We’ll be the first broadband wireless provider that allows you to “Pay as you go” rather than sign a 2-year contract and pay every month.

OK, it’s a little hokey, but attached is a new shot of me posing for a magazine article about the company. It’s just so great to be employed after so many months of drought! Best to all in the classiest class!

Sandy Jackson Epoch

Hi Debbie,

I just wanted you to know that after receiving the updated class directory I found that both Tom Weller and Wayne Trivelpiece live in the San Diego area. I contacted both of them and we met at my brothers pub (JT's Pub and Grill) last Friday. Wayne and his wife Sue, Tom, my brother and I all shared some memorable times . I am hoping we can get together again soon. I am sure I will see Tom again and hopefully Wayne and Sue. Wayne and Sue are a very busy couple and have led an adventurous life together. I am jealous. My brother's pub is now run by his son, Jeff and is a place where friends come to meet friends. So if anyone is ever in San Diego and I am out here from Austin, let me know and I will meet you at the Pub. Whether I am in San Diego or not you are always welome at JT's. Just ask for Ted or Jeff Jackson. I am going back to Austin on July 23rd for a couple of weeks and then to Syracuse in August and back to San Diego in October. I hope everyone is having a great summer. I really enjoy reading the blogs. Take care
