I still live in Wildwood, MO a suburb of St. Louis called West County.

Recently it has felt like Syracuse. We had about 8 inches of snow and had to pay a lot to get our long steep driveway plowed out.

I'm a loyal volunteer for the Humane Society of Missouri trying to help with all the needy rescue dogs. MO being a horrendous puppy mill state.

My driveway was all thick ice under the snow. We have a pull in area at the bottom so at least I could get out.

I’m with my daughter and one of my grandsons this time last we did this picture that I’m sending you is a ball five of my kids grandkids at Thanksgiving we were at Ed’s house in Charlottesville. They are wonderful human beings really each one of them ages 20 to 28 and three of them actually have real jobs two in Washington DC one’s a little outskirts of Washington DC and one right in Manhattan. She is a engineer design engineer once a lawyer and another one is works in finance and then the other two are still in college UVA and Hampton Sydney they are really good kids. I love them. Happy New Year!

I wanted to inform you that I have been in contact with Chris Ogden over the past year. We have been sharing ideas and remembrances of the good old days. After 50 years of not speaking or knowing where he was, he suddenly called me out of the blue in 2023 to offer his condolences for the passing of my brother James. Recently when asked, he expressed an interest in getting connected to folks at the FM class site. Chris lives in North Carolina and has had a very interesting life journey through many travels, employments, and experiences.

 Sheila and I are celebrating our 54th anniversary on December 19 in Naples . We have enjoyed renewing our friendship with Bob Jacobson and his wife Debby. We have dinner several times each season. All three of our children and families visit us in season. I have finished three orthopedic surgeries the result of being hit from behind by a truck. Otherwise good health. Thankful for the continued 80 degree days.

 Marsha and I have had an eventful year, selling our home in Paradise Valley, AZ back in January, putting our worldly goods in storage for a long stretch, and renting a small air bnb in Scottsdale while we decided what was next in our emeritus years.  After a lot of looking, dreaming, and driving across country visiting kids and friends, we bought a nice place at Ford’s Colony in Williamsburg, VA, and moved here in late summer. We’re not too far from my kids and grandkids in Richmond and Charlottesville, and Virginia Beach is close enough for weekends, too. Our home looks out over acres of lakes, golf holes, water birds like blue herons, gulls, Canada geese, and even the occasional bald eagle.  It’s peaceful here with a nice feeling of space, four seasons and history.  Here’s the new address:

Penny Zimmerman Jackson

 Penrose Jackson (Penny Zimmerman).  Greetings from the northern reaches of Vermont ... I’ve been married to Schuyler (Jackson) for 41 years as of Thanksgiving and we’ve lived in our small but cherished home in Hinesburg since moving in eight days post ceremony.  My first husband (David Gearin) and I never figured out how to have kids, but marrying Schuyler gave me a ready-made family of four steps:  one son and three daughters (teenagers living with their mom in Amherst).  Time passed and there are seven grandchildren, one great grandchild on the way (next May), three marriages that survived “forever,” one successful remarriage, and one death (the husband of the middle daughter who died from a rarer than rare blood cancer a bit over a year ago).  I stay active professionally (trying to launch a public health institute in Vermont, some other consulting) and as a volunteer on several boards including the Vermont Foodbank and the Vermont Historical Society.  When my back allows (physical therapy is helping ... a lot!), I garden and play passable golf in the warmer months.  My health is quite good, as is that of my 90 year old hubby who as I write is driving somewhere in Vermont in the employ of Vital Delivery Services, a statewide 24 hour delivery service.

Its 4 boys and a girl. They are all in college now. 

Three of them are graduating, one from law school,

two from college and one from high school

so I have 4 graduations this May.. 

This picture came about because I refuse to stand with them

because I look like I'm standing in a hole. 

They are 6ft or more so I had them pick me up at thanksgiving.

I have been doing a little traveling around the state with friends 

and I continue to tutor since Covid.

My brother Bill just had a grand child and my brother Rob 

just had another grandchild.  We do ours hare to populate the earth

My brother John just retired and traveled to Paris and my 

younger two brothers, Martin and Michael are still working 

in Buffalo and Syracuse, NY

Steve and I see each other, with the wives, about twice a year

 (it's about a 6 hr. drive from

Tallahassee to Venice FL ) . It is their turn to make the trip, so they are arriving this Sunday.

Renae and I have done a bit of traveling the last several years. 

We've visited most of the Baltic countries,

Ireland, Italy (twice),  Ecuador, the Galapagos ,Greese, Machu Picchu, 

and Ahbu Dhabi

(where our son's family has been for 3 years). We are going to London 

and a tour of Scotland at the 

end of July.  

We joined a group connected to FSU called OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute). 

OLLI

offers classes taught primarily by FSU professors and on Zoom from professors at

other universities. 

Many of our travels have been sponsored  by the OLLI organization.

Other than that we regularly play Pickleball, go out to breakfast and to the movies.

I hope you are well.  It has been a long time since graduation day.

I wanted to write more yesterday, but somehow I got on a site that limited me to just 300

 characters,

I had to delete much of what I wrote before I could send it.  

My wife Gerry and I are doing just fine in Venice, Florida. 

Have lots of fun collecting shark's teeth (my hobby), playing pickleball and just enjoying 

our retirements.  I'm still in contact with Jack Mapstone.  

We went to both high school and college together. In fact, we'll be visiting him and

 his wife Renee this week. 

I want to thank you for keeping your FM website going all this time and giving us

 updates on all our classmates. 

I don't know if you remember this  -  I moved into the FM school district

from West Genesee two weeks into my freshman year.  

 Didn't know a soul.  You were the first person to welcome me to my new school. 

 I still remember that to this day.

I came back to Fayetteville in June to catch up with a friend, and went to the class of ’67 Reunion. It was so fun to see the area again, and catch up with so many friends.

The 67 folks don’t have a champion like you, rather a loose association of volunteers making contacts. It is nicely disorganized as you can imagine, but they manage to find a lot of folks

Thank you for your time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears over all these years. You have made a huge difference.

I came back to Oregon, I thought between reunions. But something about ER’s, a hospital stay, two operations, and a few months long recovery gobbled up my Summer into fall.

Got most of my health back and working on the rest.

I started at WNDR radio in 1969 and I instantly knew I had found a home among similarly insane people. Many may remember Dave Laird who was program director back then. He hired me, "trained" me for about 15 minutes on my first day (at 5 am on a Sunday), then left me to my own devices at the controls. Catastrophe. I sweated out that first awful shift, thinking I would be fired instantly. Little did I know, the total audience at that time on a Sunday morning consisted of about 6 people battling hangovers who could not have cared less. I don't think that "audience" included my new boss.

After a year or so at WNDR, much to my amazement, I was hired by a brand new television station in Utica, WUTR. I packed up my VW and moved to Utica. I don't know what made me think I could be a tv news reporter. Perhaps just the fact that I didn't know what I didn't know gave me enough confidence to try. After one year on the job, I experienced what seems to be inevitable in broadcasting; I got fired. That's a long story in itself but that was more than 50 years ago so you could say it's old news. We just returned from a week of skiing in the Italian Dolomites with our daughter Sara and her fiancé. Wonderful and sunny all week long. The highlight was a day spent doing the Sellaronda tour around a giant mountain massif. The ski took 7 hours, covered 32 miles of terrain and had innumerable lifts and runs. Amazing skiing and scenery.

Joan Johnson, here.  Still in Lakewood, Colorado.  By now, I've been in Colorado most of my life.  Have had a lot of good times, some not.  Still hanging out with musicians and arty folk.

On July 14, 2021, I lost my wife Marquette of 51 years. I am  living in Summerville, South Carolina, where I’ve lived for nine years. I have two sons and three grandchildren. Life sucks without Marquette but I’m getting by. I really appreciate the communications that you give out about our class. Now that I don’t have to take care of my wife, I hope that I can make our next reunion.

A new chapter in my life is keeping me busy with more traveling everywhere.  Last March I ventured to Tennessee to pick a puppy for my daughter.  This is the same breeder we have used for years.  The puppy is a black and white Springer Spaniel.  At 6 weeks old she rode back to Florida with ease.

 A couple months later I met up with my brothers and sister to visit the Arc in Kentucky.  Very interesting the size of the Arc and the interest of people visiting.  This past fall I visited some good friends from the service, spending a couple days reminiscing of years past.  It was sad to learn that one had just recently passed.

  

I drove over to Rochester to visit a couple cousins and check to see how the family is doing. After spending a few days there talking about growing up in New York.  Headed to Fayetteville to visit with my wife's aunt.  Spent a couple days talking about the family history.  I created a family tree with 1900 relatives on all sides of my family.  We have uncovered so much history and have shared it with all the family members.

I planned a trip with my son and his wife through South America.  We traveled thru Belize, Guatemala, Panama and to Peru.  Visited Cusco and the Sacred Valley and the home of the Inca's.  Some of these sites were created before the Inca habited the area.  We got the opportunity to travel to the top of Machu Picchu an area where the high Inca priests would travel to get in contact with their high spirits.  It was interesting to find that that mountain top was only about 6000 feet in elevation and the Sacred Valley was about 10,000 - 13,000 feet.

We also visited the headwaters of the Amazon located in Andes at about 18,000 - 20,000 feet.  At that elevation the glacier melts and the water forms the headwaters of the Amazon.  

Continuing to live in Kissimmee, Florida where I volunteer at Give Kids the World.  The boy scout troop where both my grandsons both achieved Eagle I continue help.  

This keeps me busy when I'm not working with the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club searching for old relicts among other items.  There are many space launches to watch and it is very interesting to see the first stage Jettisoned and return to the launch site.  

This past weekend the scouts did a campout over the weekend at South Port County park where they held the farmers market.  The boys volunteered in helping set up and taking down signs and what was needed by the venders as well as helping individuals take their packages to their vehicles.

I am looking forward to traveling back to Ireland and visit family friends for a week or so.  From there I have got a couple places that should be very interesting.

My partner Beth and I sharing a beer and terrace in Santa Maria de Marvao Portugal. Just returned from three weeks in Andalusia and Algarve, getting out of the Wyoming winter and enjoying sunny days, warm weather and no crowds- a great time to visit! Will be in the Finger Lakes for August, but have camping on the river for Yellowstone visitors the rest of the summer!

We went to a 70th birthday party for George Belton (Barb's brother) a week ago. It was at Barb and Bob Pellenz's daughter Kerry's house.  Kerry told me how grateful they were when Bob came home for our 56th reunion.  He was able to spend time with her and the grandchildren.

Gary and I are doing fine; still walking 4 miles a day and enjoying life with our elderly calico cats out here in the woods.  Planning a trip to AZ for our grandson Logan's wedding in late April.

Dan Kirkley has passed away

 

Obituary

     Daniel A. Kirkley, 74, of Fayetteville died peacefully at home after a long illness.  Born in Syracuse, Dan graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School.  Dan worked as a machinist specializing in computer  aided design and programing automated machinery.

     He had been active in assisting the ABC program at Fayetteville-Manlius School and was a member of the Manlius Historical Society and the Fayetteville Senior Center.  Though Dan lived in Canada for 25 years of his life, Fayetteville was always his home.  He loved the Fayetteville Library and spent many hours there  since moving back to Fayetteville. 

     He was an avid cyclist, frequently seen around the Village.  In 1976 he took a US Bicentennial cycle trip over the Rocky Mountains.  He was a former member of the Onondaga Cycling Club.  He belonged to Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club in Canada and enjoyed officiating at CORK sailing races.

     He is predeceased by his parents, Dr. George and Freda Kirkley.  He is survived by four siblings, Cynthia Kirkley of Baldwinsville, NY, David Kirkley of East Syracuse, Laurel (Peter) Notturno of Canton, OH and Scott (Martha) Kirkley of Rochester, NY; four nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and great-nephews.

     A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
