Phil Evans

Nancy and I and another couple returned from Australia and New Zealand mid December, the start of their summer. Both countries were beautiful, particularly the South Island of New Zealand, where we spent most of our time. Spent several different days snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, sea kayaking and catamaran sailing in the Tasman Sea off New Zealand, and sailing in the fiords of the South Island. Stayed a couple of nights at an ecological lodge on a sheep ranch at Arthurs Pass and one morning got a chance to watch the dogs at work. Did hiking or "tramping" as it's called, through the countryside and cities -- Sydney, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, Queenstown, and Auckland. All were unique, with friendly people everywhere. The New Zealand countryside is like stepping back to the U.S. in the 1950's. Nancy through a friend, actually got to teach a kindergarten class in Auckland on our last day, which was a thrill for her, now being a recently retired teacher.
Take care,
Phil
