Betty C. Shipps
March 6, 2009 Betty C. Shipps, beloved wife of Byron M Shipps, passed away March 6, 2009, in Dewitt, NY. Born in Detroit, Michigan, on October 6, 1918, she graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1940. She was married to Byron on December 21, 1940. They moved to Dewitt in 1948 and were longtime members of Dewitt Community Church and the Onondaga Golf and Country Club. Upon retiring, they moved to Naples, FL, where they had wintered since the mid-seventies and were members of the Royal Poinciana Golf Club. She is survived by her daughters, Jan Vincent and son-in-law Bill Vincent of Vestal, NY, and Sue Shipps of Amherst, NY; her son, Larry and daughter-in-law Leslie Shipps of Cazenovia and Keene Valley, NY; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frazier and Marion Shipps of Nashua, NH. A memorial service is planned for April 18, 2009, at Dewitt Community Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and her family has been in awe of her courage in the face of severe illness. To the end she showed love, interest and joy in her family and caregivers. Her spirit and strength will be remembered always.
