Melinda Mussi Lockwood

Not too much to report here. We do have chickens now – Golden Comet is the breed. We purchased twelve in March (folks told us to get more than we wanted as we would lose some–we did not). We are averaging ten eggs a day now so I am in the egg business on a small scale. I am selling to a faculty member in the department and will be adding one more customer this week. I make enough to cover the cost of feed and I am fine with that.

Our garden has been terrific this year. We have more peppers that I would have imagined possible so we will be having pickled peppers through the winter and beyond. Tomatoes, corn, eggplant, beans, carrots, green and red peppers abound.
We are all healthy which is a blessing. I am having rotator cuff surgery in a couple of weeks and am dreading it. I fell a few years ago and tore my right rc. The surgery was difficult and recovery was horrific but that should is back to 100%. I tore my left one a year ago in April. I was helping a friend assemble a garment rack, lifted the top, turned, ouch! Went for an x-ray and was told it was a soft tissue injury and so went for physical therapy for a time. Did not work. Finally capitulated and went back to my orthopedic "guy." His email to me after seeing my MRI was, and I quote, "Melinda, you have a tear. A hug tear. When do you want to take care of it." Surgeons are not noted for having particular good bedside manners and he lives up to the reputation. He is terrific though and I do actually like him very much. Sugery is slated for September 11. I meet with the anesthesiology group next week. Whoopee.
Our fall canoe race, the Perche Creek Fall Five is coming up October 12 and it is looking like we will have another excellent turnout this year. We run two races a year; one in March and one in October. Sort of bookends to the racing season. We had the US Junior Olympic canoe team in the spring and the coach conducted a short coaching session following the race. We also welcome kayakers and SUP (Stand Up Paddling) participants. Our fall race is a two mile run and three mile canoe/kayak/SUP sprint. Great fun for the whole family.
By and large, life is good here in Columbia. Hope this is enough info for now.

Take care.

Kent Langworthy

I wanted to share this picture with you of me and Tim Atseff at my Daughters wedding. All is well and I am truly blessed! The best to all the class.  This picture surfaced recently of my buddy Tim and the wedding last fall.  Paula and I are still working and enjoying every day.  We went to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland this summer and it was fabulous.  Now on to someplace we have not been.  I will try and get you more pics.  The door in Georgia is always open.  The Best!  Always, Kent.

Rod Burne

I haven't responded until now because I am totally saddened that almost all of my close friends have died already; it makes one wonder. To give our classmates a little up-date- I have reached the ripe age of 65 in July-I have 3 sons and 1 daughter. My oldest son Brandon does not have any children as yet-My 2nd oldest son Benjamin has 2 sons-My 3rd oldest son Nate has 2 daughters-My daughter Sally has 1 son for a grand total of 5 grandchildren.

I went to Vietnam 1967-1968. I came out a mess. I was at Camp Carrol which was right on the DMZ further north than Kesahn.

I got married and it lasted 24 years.  My 2nd marriage is still going on with my wife Judy-we have been married for 15 years now and live in Columbia, S.C.

Presently I am the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of South Carolina State Commander. I am very very involved in helping veterans and their families.

That's it for now.

Rodney "Rod" (to some of my classmates "Bean") Burne

David Eckerson

you certainly are persistent, Debby
OK ...

Dave Eckerson retired from the Foreign Service at the end of July after 28 years of moving his bride and family around the globe.  He'll be flying out to Seattle in early September, hooking up with some old buds and doing a "Fear and Loathing" road trip back to Virginia to kick off the next chapter of his life.

Cinda Meachem Sutton

I retired from my teaching job June 30 this year and am now working part time for a company that sends me to schools of nursing around the country to do Live Reviews preparing the students for their licensing exam. I just got back from 2 weeks in Texas, which allowed me some time with my daughter and  grandchildren who live in Dallas. The best part is that I get to choose if & where I go to the reviews!
In April I attended my Godfather's 100th birthday.  My Godfather is Debbie Goode's father, if you remember her from the class of 1967. He lives in Limestone Gardens in Manlius and is in AMAZING shape for 100 years!  Speaking of Debbie, I get the chance to see her 2-3 times a year, as she visits here on her way to cruising and I see her when I come to Manlius. I see Jane & Tad a couple of times a year and Larry Craigie usually only once a year. (You probably see him more often!)
In one week I'll be going on vacation to Alaska!  I will be spending 5 days with my niece in Juneau before meeting up with friends in Anchorage. In May we will be going on a River Cruise through Portugul.  I LOVE being retired!  I haven't started getting Social Security yet, but that will be nice too.  Made too much $$ to take it this year.

I have no news to share but I can tell you that I am looking forward to the 50th.
I have in my possession an unopened bottle of Canadian Club with a 1966 tax stamp! (I know that whisky doesn't improve with age once it's bottled, but if it's not opened it doesn't go bad either.)
God willing, I will bring it to the reunion to share and toast with the class.
If for some unforeseen reason I can't be there we will have to assign the responsibility to another classmate.
Cheers!
Best Regards,
Rick Wilson

The summer is going by very quickly. My wife Vicki and I love to garden. We only have a small garden and a few fruit tree’s to tend. We have enjoyed many vegetables and so have the neighbors. I think my wife plants too much, but she loves sharing with all our friends and family. Our area has been hit with a lot of rain and the garden has produced an over abundance. We picked peaches and pears from our tree’s but we are not getting a good growth of apples. We will have to go to the orchards to get them this fall.

We have both retired now even though my wife says “this doesn’t feel any different than before”. Now she has me at home all the time. She must be so happy. This is our update from the Grace family …Bob and Vicki.

This is a picture of Sue Heiss and me at her 61st birthday party. Have been seeing Sue for 5 months. We went camping at Raquette Lake in July and are off to Paris next week. She is an avid basketball player and this week she participated in the National Senior Games in Cleveland (11,000+ athletes participated), her women's basketball team won the Gold Metal National Championship on Wednesday (July 31st). Go Sue!!!

At dinner in Paris at Le Cinq restaurant. Perfect weather and 6 wonderful days

Summertime
Hi all.
Went out to one of the public use cabins for the weekend a little while back. These are all over Alaska and can be rented out for a week at a time. This one was about 150 miles south of Anchorage, but it is the quintessential Alaska log cabin in the woods on a lake. Also thought I would add a pic or two of the primary mode of transport up here. Can't wait to do more of this.
Take care.
Tom

News from Camp Tellman

Am going to teach one more year.  I teach 4th and 5th grade English as a second language and I love my little English language learners.
My wife Lisa have been working on our 33 foot Nauticat motorsailer. We are very close to refloating her and finishing the final cosmetics so we can travel in our retirement.  We will travel North to the Chesapeake in the summer 2014 and South to Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean in Winter.  It has been a five year project.  Hopefully our health will continue and we can reap the fruits of our labors.
As an aviator we say:
"we don't know how much runway we have left."

Pamela spotted her first Scarlet Tanager not too long ago.
