Hans-Heinz Wuerslin
Hans-Heinz Wuerslin July 12, 2011 Hans-Heinz Wuerslin, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday in St. Joseph's Palliative Care Unit after a sudden illness. He was born June 20, 1919, in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. He received his civil engineering degree from University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 1938. After service in the military, he immigrated to the U.S. with his wife and three children in 1952, briefly living in Eastwood before moving to Fayetteville in 1954, where a fourth child was born. Hans-Heinz started his long, professional engineering career at Eckerlin & Klepper in Syracuse, employed as a structural engineer with over 20 years of service, Stetson Dale in Utica, and finally to his much admired firm, retiring at age 70, from Stearns & Wheler, Cazenovia. He was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since 1952. He sang in the church choir, served on the church council, and was a member of the building and organ committees. Hans-Heinz's love of music endured throughout his life. He was trained as a classical pianist, was a member of the Syracuse Chorale and the SU Oratorio Society, attending many concerts throughout NY state. He had been an avid skier since the age of five; and despite many mishaps, he was proud to receive his age 90+ skier pin. He was a member of Onondaga Ski Club and loved cycling and other club activities. Hans-Heinz was active in preserving his German heritage through the German-American Society of CNY, the Stein Club, and was past president and 40-year member of Schlaraffia International. He loved to travel, pursue new interests and embraced current technology. He lived life to the fullest. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Brunhilde; two daughters, Christina (Richard) Burr of Fayetteville and Simone (Philip) Montgomery of Syracuse; two sons, Karlfrieder Wuerslin and Markus (Theresa) Wuerslin, both of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Ilya Amromin, M.D., the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital and especially Jennifer Mayo and the palliative care staff for their wonderful care. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Highbridge Rd., Fayetteville. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to WCNY Classic FM or American Lung Association. If you wish to leave a note of condolence, please
