I’m a mixed-media painter and photographer whose work work has appeared in Time, Newsweek, People, The New York Times, The London Times, The Los Angeles Times, Stern (Germany), Paris Match, Yachting, Sail, Boating, Rudder, Time-Life Books, Modern Photography, American Photographer, and on about 100 magazine and book covers.
I started out photographing for United Press International in 1974, worked as a marine photographer and magazine contributing editor from 1975 to 1982, and as a contract photographer, writer and editor for Newsweek International Special Projects from 1982 to 2002. Along the way, I had the chance to work with and observe some of the greatest photojournalists of the 20th century––including Ralph Morse and George Silk (Time-Life), and legendary marine photographer Stanley Rosenfeld.
Since 2002, I’ve focused on print-making and, especially, mixed-media painting. I’m also on the faculty of the Silvermine Guild Arts Center in New Canaan, CT, where I teach courses in digital editing and print-making.
My past commercial clients, at least the ones I remember, include ABC Television, Apple, Canon, CBS, Ciba, Club Med, Compaq, Costa Cruises, Gulfstar Yachts, Fuji, HP, IBM, Kodak, The Moorings, Morgan Yachts, NEC, The Washington Post, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Schering, Texas Instruments, VDO Instruments, Xerox, and Ziff Davis.
I’ve exhibited in New York and Paris, including a retrospective of marine photography called “La Vie Martime” at the Librairie Maritime et Outremer in 2000. My photos can be found in the private collections of Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Ted Turner, Dina Merrill and others.
Over the years I contributed articles to Newsweek, People, Inc., Yachting, Sail and many other marine-trade periodicals, and written two books: “The Art of Computer Management,” Simon & Schuster (1984) and “The Home Video Sourcebook,” Macmillan (1982).
