Appreciate all of the updates that you have been sending. I admit that I have been remiss in keeping you up to date. 1st of all I am still alive and kicking. After HS is spent 1 1/2 yrs in college (not my best effort). Then 4yrs in the navy on subs. After the navy I finished college and worked at Crouse Hinds for 13 yrs. Then I went to Goulds Pumps as the international credit mgr for 25 yrs. Where I traveled all over the world, to about 40 different countries I retired 3 yrs ago and now my wife of 44 yrs, split our time between Charleston, SC and Canada. We have 2 boys, NO GRANDCHILDREN.

Sandra Tice Flanders went home to Jesus on July 26, 2014. She was born December 14, 1947 in Manlius, NY to Niles and Grace Tice.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest E. Flanders; children, Scott (Lynn) and Robin; grandchildren, Emma, Leslie, Jeremy and Kyle (deceased); and a great-grandchild, Kyle. She will be missed by the folks at Magnolia Point Realty and her beloved church, Living Waters. She was loved by all who knew her.

David L. Courtwright, Obituary

David L. Courtwright, 66 of Liverpool, passed away Wednesday at the V.A. Medical Center in Syracuse. David was raised in the Pompey, Manlius and Fayetteville area and then was a resident of the Town of Volney for over 25 years. He was a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School in 1966. He was employed as a truck driver for over 30 years, most recently with Gypsum Express in Baldwinsville. David was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Navy. He was of the Catholic faith. David was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Lois Courtwright and a brother, Peter Courtwright.

Surviving are his sons, David J. (Anne) Courtwright of Tully, Patrick (Jennifer) Courtwright of Mexico and Christopher Todd Courtwright of Pulaski; his daughters, Erin Comstock (Scott) of Parish, Shada Courtwright (Chris) of Liverpool, Abbagail Courtwright (Brett) of Constantia and Kylie Courtwright serving in the U.S. Navy; his brothers, William of Manlius and Thomas (Pat) of Chittenango; his sister, Carol O'Hora (John) of Florida; his sister-in-law, Amanda Courtwright of Chittenango; 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 5 p.m. at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Burial with military honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango. You know all those seemingly endless public radio fund-raisers?  We are sustaining members and are told that we’re entered into all the drawings.  After years (and years) of being members we’re driving to Boston and after hearing the, “Please call now, 1-800-639-6391” plea for the umpteenth time I said to my husband, “Yeesch, you’d think after all these years we’d win something.  I wonder if we’re really entered in all the drawings.”  Yup, 15 minute later what do we hear but “Congratulations to Penrose and Schuyler Jackson of Hinesburg, Vermont.  They’ve just won two round trip airfares for anywhere in the U.S.”  Surreal.

The Memorial Gallery Show will be at Delavan Center 509 W. Fayette St (near Armory Square), on Friday June 20  5-8 PM. Sat June 21 10-4, and Sunday June 22 Noon-4. There will be some musicians playing (myself included) and refreshments.

I hope to place it in Syracuse New Times paper as well. 

Regarding my activities, I am still teaching world religions as well as giving lecture-demonstrations of Indian music. I recently returned from giving a concert and workshop at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas!

Obituary:

John Iliff Harris, 83, passed away Monday, March 31st in Ormond Beach, FL. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on June 30, 1930; he served in the United States Navy, was a graduate of Cortland State University and received his Masters in Science from Syracuse University.

John, a former resident of Fayetteville NY, was a math teacher at Wellwood Middle School for 35 years. He was actively involved in the Fayetteville-Manlius Cross Country program and an avid Syracuse University fan. After retiring from Fayetteville-Manlius he moved to Albuquerque, NM where he lived with his wife, Judith.He is survived by his three daughters, Pamela (Michael) Myers, Jennifer Breter, Nancy (Coleman) Todd, eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. About a year ago a real estate client of mine listed his father's house with me to settle his father's estate. Among the things in the house which needed cleaning out was a pantry full of liquor, many of the bottles were unopened. He told me to take anything I wanted. Well, long story longer, there was an unopened bottle of Canadian Club with a tax stamp of 1966 (they haven't used tax stamps since the '70's)
God willing, I plan on bringing the bottle to the 50th reunion for a celebratory toast. If for any reason I can't make it I'm looking for someone to step in and take the bottle to the reunion in my place. Anyone interested in being my back-up contact me,wilson.rick2@gmail.com

FYI , Distilled spirits don't improve with age once they are bottled, but they don't go bad either if they are unopened.

Obituary:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Dora Neary Dot, beloved mother of five rambunctious sons, passed away January 8, 2014 at her home in Fayetteville. Dora was married for over 70 years to Joseph L. Neary, formerly of Solvay. Born on Onondaga Hill in 1921, she moved to Pompey at age 12 to work the family dairy farm on Ridge Road. She was a proud graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing, and worked as school nurse at DeVillo Sloan School in Syracuse, and continued to care for others throughout her life. Dora's greatest pleasures in life included her grandchildren, the family camp on Lake Ontario, travels to the western US, Alaska and Virgin Islands, her wonderful friends Carolyn (Neary) Gillette of Dubois, Wyoming and Valda Root of Fayetteville, and faithful springer spaniel, Ruby. Grandma Dot is survived by husband, Joe; and sons, David (Diane) of Lander, Wyoming, Pat (Kyle) of Billings, Montana and Michael (Amy) of Fayetteville; along with eight grandchildren, Katie, Anna, Petar, Marien, Jessica, Bryce, Amanda and Michael; and two great-grandkids, Madison and Katie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sons, John and Joe; her twin brother, Dave; and sister, Ruth (Bryan). Dora deeply touched many people throughout her life, and was particularly grateful for the love given her near the end by Moira Noble and Ann Gensler of Peace at Homecare. Mass will be held in celebration of her life on Tuesday, January 14 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville. This morning was an eventful one for Lisa and me, as we finally, after 8 years and 3 months, put our boat back in the water. She's been updated w/ new systems and equipment that will make sailing her easier and safer.  Because I have a Dutch heritage I was able to stick w/ the plan (finger in the dike mentality).  And, I especially appreciate the help I've had from Peter Squire during the last few months.  Without him and his knowledge this splash day would have happened at a much later date. Tomorrow we will move her right back to the slip we rented before in our neighborhood marina and during the next 6 months, I'll install the navigation system and Lisa will do the fun part of making her a home again so she'll be ready to use when we both finish working in June.  If the move goes well tomorrow we'll have a little splash party at the docks @ 3 pm...watch for the next post! We hope everyone can join us!

Born in Lansing, MI, she was a graduate of Michigan State University and completed a year of law school at the University of Michigan. Athenia was a volunteer for Literacy Volunteers, the Fayetteville Free Library, the Everson Museum, and a Girl Scout leader and board member. She and her late husband, Stephen, enjoyed square dancing and attending and supporting the Syracuse Symphony, Syracuse Opera and Syracuse Stage. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Rogers in 2002; three sisters; and a brother. She is survived by her children and their families, Stephen (Nancy) Rogers of Fayetteville and their children, Timothy (Jing) Rogers and Laurel (Tom) Champion; Christopher (Kathy) Rogers of Winfield, KS and their children, Karen Rogers, Clinton (Caroline) Rogers, Joanna (David) Brazil and Gretchen (Jeff) Wacker; and
Elizabeth Cowan of Fayetteville and her children, Katie Cowan and Chrissie Cowan; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee St., DeWitt. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in DeWitt. Richard Edward Milovicz

While holding the hand of family, Richard Edward Milovicz passed away peacefully on November 30, 2013 to join his beloveds, brother, Stephen C. Milovicz, niece, Kimmy McCarthy, and dog, Bo.

Rich was born November 23, 1948, the middle child of the late Stephen A. and Catherine Milovicz, in Manlius, NY. He served proudly as a sonarman in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of first class petty (coat) officer by the age of 23. He graduated with high honors from N.C. State, a chemical engineer, and retired from a full career at Proctor & Gamble in Baltimore, MD. Rich loved golf and had a penchant for rescuing stray animals.

He had a daughter of whom he was very proud, and she is unceasingly grateful for the father who taught her algebra at 3, gifted her confidence and strength through his steadfast love, showed her how to be honest and empathetic, and passed down a penchant for rescuing stray animals.

He is survived by his daughter, Leigh Barton and her mother, Sue Milovicz, his sister, Kathie Brunken, sister-in-law, Diane Milovicz, godmother, Mary McWilliams, dog, Jasper, cat, Rain, and numerous friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:30pm Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with Chaplain Anne Gordon officiating. The family will greet friends before and after the service starting at 4:00pm.

Well, Debby ... I retired in July and I'm now living the dream.
Did a raucous road trip from Oregon to Virginia with some old USAID buds.  Then headed down to Cabo St Lucas at the tip of Baha for my daughters "destination" 30th birthday with all our young'uns and many of her friends.  I'm ensconced in northern Virginia, doing a pile of "honey dos" while my bride works for another year at the State Department.  We will split time between Seattle and Arlington starting next summer, so if any folks are in the DC or Seattle area, look us up.

Death is an appointment that we cannot cancel or delay.  It is an appointment we will all keep.  The statistics are staggering.  One out of every one dies (Hebrews 9:27), with the exception of two.  One very special One, God’s own Son, died and after three days rose from the grave.  Proof positive that there is life after death.  Not reincarnation but resurrection – never to die again. 

 

The Bible tells us that there is only one Name under heaven by which men must be saved – JESUS!  He is all the hope we have and the only hope we need.  He has been there, done that, and is desiring each one of us to join Him in heaven.  The choice is ours to make.

Jon Spring, 66, of Manlius died unexpectedly on Friday. Born in Syracuse, Jon was a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School and attended Auburn Community College. Jon retired from the Village of Fayetteville DPW. He owned Pompey Lawn Service for over 30 years and was currently a bus aide to special needs children in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District. He was a member of the Oran Community Church and the Manlius Fire Department where he had served as DMO and ambulance driver. He was an Air Force Veteran of Vietnam. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Ellen Becker Spring; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher G. and Judy Spring; grandchildren, Jordan Michael and Maddison Rose; sister, Deborah Dammer; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Tim Fox; niece Katrina Fox; and great-niece, Kaitlynn. He was predeceased by his mother and step-father, Karoline and Ernest Pittman; father, Samuel G. Spring; and brother, Wallace Spring.
