Camp Tellman

I am still teaching ESL to immigrant children. It is a great job with appreciative families and students and an easy pace. My wife Lisa and I are working to get our motorsailer "DULCINEA" back in the water for our adventures on the water. We hope to shove off in June '10. Travel will be East Coast, Caribbean and northern South America. My wife Lisa owns the Curves in our village. We have mostly retirees here so her business has been down but it still is doing well.I have returned to motorcycling. In 1972 I started riding BMWs and this winter I have been touring to South Florida for a few days and expect to travel to Michigan in July to see Gretchen. I really enjoy long trips seeing the country. So this probably doesn't seem too intriguing but it is life as I live it.

Muddy Paws

I really dislike rain and dirt -- mud. Three dogs make it impossible to have a clean kitchen floor at this time of year. Muddy Paws times 4 = 12 feet I have to deal with. Sometimes the mud it so bad I have to dip the paws in a big bowl of water first and then dry them off. The other night I had to do an emergency bath on my now 1 year old puppy Mavis. The dogs don't like having this stuff done to them either so it's a struggle anyway you look at it.

Not my dog but a really good example.

Happy Spring time

My cousins

With Skype I regularly talk to my cousin David in Woolongong, Australia. Prior to Skype we never even exchanged letters. My other cousin Janette lives in Toyko, Japan. She is just now setting up with a camera so we can talk. I also speak occasionally to our classmate Duke Leonard in Iraq. I spoke once with Charlene Magquire in Kansas City, MO and Gerry Phillips in CA. It's really great.

Just thought you'd like to know.

Raising Funds for Dick Shanahan

If you missed any of the emails, Dick Shanahan has had a successful lung transplant. He has just returned home to Manlius. He is due back in Cleveland in a month for a check up.

Dick will have a number of expenses with on going monthly medication and trips back and forth to Cleveland for checkups and related expenses. The stress of trying to make ends meet, is not what Dick and his family needs right now.

Please help out with whatever you can for Dick. In addition to our contributions, it's been suggested that local classmates work on a fund raiser through St. Ann's Church in Manlius to raise additional funds. This has already been initiated by Dick's postal and softball friends.

If you would like to contribute to a fund for Dick, which would help him out right away, please send your checks as follows:

Make check out to FM Class of 1966

in the memo space write for Dick Shanahan

Cinda Meachem Sutton

I have been regularly checking the blog. I was waiting for word on Dick, not realizing there was another link to get to his news. I must say, when I saw the photo of the "three gents" it brought back a flood of memories from way over 50 years ago! I also want to send my condolences to John and Tom for the untimely death of Lacey. When we were kids in Manlius, we started kindergarten with the "walkers" in one session and the "bus kids" in another. We attended Pleasant Street school for kindergarten and 1st grade, before the new Manlius Elementary was built. The same school we all went to for Jr. High. In any case, John, Tom and Dick were all walkers, along with me, Mort Morgan, Margot Benedict, Dave Vermilya, Barb Kiggins, Diane Spina, Wayne Trivelpiece, Maxine Bloss, Drew Washo, Larry Craigie,Mike Kurgan, Mike Brown and the Salterns (and many more I can't recall at this moment.) As time went on, another distinction was evident, the Catholics and the Protestants. The Catholic boys all played CYO basketball and got to go to release time education once a week, walking from the elementary school to the old St. Ann's church. The Episcopalian's soon followed suit, but the other Protestants had to stay in school. Many of us also went to vacation bible school at the Baptist Church every summer. So, you can see that my memories with those guys go WAY BACK! I'm so happy to see that Dick is progressing well and to see a photo of the 3 of them!
My job keeps me extrememly busy (just glad I have a job in this market!) Also enjoying my new grandson, almost 6 months old. We visited Jane and Tad in January and will be back up there in a couple of weeks. Scott is doing really well. He took a 10 day trip through the Islands in January. I'll be back in Central N.Y. in early June for my aunt's 90th birthday. We will all be staying at a resort in the 1,000 Islands for the family reunion-birthday party. I hope if anyone comes to South Florida, they will look me up! Seeing the winter that you all have been experienceing, I'm glad to be here in the south!
Thanks for keeping us all connected!

Frank Carroll

Spoke with Frank Carroll who is happy to report that his mother Adele is safely ensconced in James Sq Nursing Home in Syracuse. He and his brother have been taking care of her at the family home. She is no longer able to get around on her own so they had to find a place with full care. It's been difficult with waiting lists and locations.
Now Frank can now turn his attention to many of his own affairs that have fallen by the wayside. When I called he was filling out an extensive job application.

Jim Myers

Spoke with Jim Myers tonight. He's holding his own in Phoenix, AZ. It was a pleasant 80 plus degrees today. We caught up on news and classmates and basically just shot the breeze.

Dick Shanahan

Dick called from Cleveland tonight and filled me in on what he's been going through. He was released from the hospital on Saturday and is staying in a hotel across the street. He and Maureen do not have a car with them since they had to fly there on the emergency medical flight. Once he got the call he had to get to the airport as soon as possible. Without a car, they are limited in where they can stay and he is unclear as to how long he has to be there.

What he did want me to convey to everyone, is how greatful he is for all your thoughts and prayers. There are just not enough words to express how he feels.

" Thank you."

Dick
