 We still have $811.39 in our bank account for the FMHS Class of 1966 Reunion Fund.  We'd be glad to put another reunion together if people are interested.  It could be something really simple - like coming for July 4th and having a picnic somewhere.  With our inevitably dwindling numbers, we could actually have a gathering at our house like we did for the 50th Reunion brunch.   And there is no reason to have reunions every 5 years - just pick a year!  We're all probably vaccinated by now, right?

 I don't  know if this is newsworthy or relevant to anyone other than myself but I became a fist time Grandfather 4 weeks ago. My son and his wife had a baby boy, Benjamin Oliver Braun.They live in Vancouver BC so there" no way to see them other than face time.

 We “Benham’s” are doing very well.  Five kids, 16 grand kiddos, all within a 20 mile radius of our home here in Concord, North Carolina. 

Most of the traveling I do, I do with my boys (Benhambrothers.com), though I was recently in St. Louis a few of months ago dealing with your beloved District Attorney.  She is a real piece of work.  

The Lord brought you to my mind while I was there. We all ended up at “Ted Drews” which is always a great way to end a visit to St. Louis. 

Most all of us have had our run in with COVID.  It really is just a flu that ran its course.  The only difference I could detect was that we lost our sense of taste. 

Only Jesus could take a wretch like me and give me the privilege to make Him known to all of the world. 

He loves you Debby and is knocking at the door of your heart.

My husband and I just got our 2nd Covid shot. Felling better about things.

Just had cataract surgery in my left eye and am set for awhile. Don't need the other eye done for 6 to 12 months.

Still have 3 dogs and live in Wildwood, MO about 40 minutes from St. Louis.

Hey Debby,

Life is treating Lisa and me very well (today).  

We are pretty much done with home remodeling. 

We rent our house through AirBnB and have done many upgrades to make

it more user friendly, efficient and easier to clean.  

We are near the beach and excellent fishing so we have people revisit often.

We have a travel trailer for a go-to when there are guests in our home.  

The RV is excellent for isolation from others.

Sometimes we go to the mountains or the beach and hang out off of the grid. 

It is solar powered except for A/C.

Thankfully we are healthy and active for the time being.  

When I go through my "Oakleaves" I am reminded how lucky we are.  

I see many who were called  home early in their lives.

Hi, Everyone,

We are enduring our Year of COVID in fairly good mettle; so glad we love our home of nearly 37 years and, yes, each other (married those same 37 years; we moved in a week after we were married).  I am in reasonably good health, now that I said au revoir to my gall bladder last year.  Have mild hypertension and a “dodgy” lower GI tract, but compared to what so many others face … I cannot complain.

I am still working part time (primarily from home, so little change there) helping a public library raise money for its new home and keeping my toe in the waters of my former work (community/population health) on some paid (contract work with the Vermont Public Health Association) and unpaid (co-edited an e-book that will come out in the fall, The Evolution of Community Benefit; Perspective on Progress Toward Purpose; let me know if you’d like the link).

One of the few regrets I have in life is never having had children, but I was smart enough to marry a man, Schuyler, with four late teenaged offsprung (one son, three daughters) who have, in turn, blessed us (and the planet) with seven pretty special grandchildren (yes, I know you all say the same thing!).  They are scattered across the U.S. (Maine, Berkeley, two near D.C.) and we’ve kept in good touch in This Time thanks to Zoom.

We have traveled a bit, and this year it was to be Ireland in the early summer … will we go after the vaccine?  Don’t know … the first priority will be – as I bet for most of us – to reconnect with family and friends; just to physically touch one another will be a delight.

We have lost Frank Carroll

Frank passed away in Oregon  on July 13, 2020. an obituary will follow soon.

"Frank was the smartest person I knew growing up. He made a perfect 1,600 on his SATs and declined a full scholarship from Stanford to go to Harvey Mudd College. It’s a shame his mind left him first."

Bruce and I are retired and still live in Phoenix. Our daughter and her family, who live in downtown Chicago, have been blessed to be at Ryan's family's beach house in Ogunquit, Maine for the summer and beyond. They both work from home while entertaining Finn who will be three in October. It was 116 yesterday so we try to swim in the morning and lay low the rest of the day. The highlight is FaceTiming with Finn each morning where we read books, tell jokes and share stories.

I was adopted and through the gift of Ancestry.com, I discovered  that I have 4 half brothers and 2 half sisters. A year ago December, Kristina and I met one of my "brothers" and his wife In Washington, DC, and in July we went to a family reunion, near Syracuse, where we met 2 more "brothers" and 2 "sisters". We also had the opportunity to spend time with our dear friend, NancyWhite. It has been great fun connecting with everyone and they have been so kind and welcoming. Hope you are all well and thank you Debbie for keeping us all connected.

I retired from XEROX after 29 years at 57 working mostly in computer science and finally in their property management division.

We have a small RV that we use during the summer for trips to National Parks and other adventures that include mountain biking, hiking, paddle boards and kayaking. All four kids and grown and we now have 7 grandkids to enjoy! Life is good.

Welcome to 2019

2019 finds our class losing classmates at an alarming rate. I didn't think I would need the high school photos anymore, so I deleted them from our files. I guess turning 70 has been a difficult time for some of us.

As for me, I have been ailing with pain in both legs from 2 pinched nerves in my lower back for almost a year now. Am seeing another neurosurgeon in early April regarding this. This will be the 4th doctor I have sought to find a diagnosis and a course of action. I cannot walk normally and limp with pain in my right calf.

I just now came home from a quarterly check up with my primary care dr. My A1C has stabilized and we are both happy about that.
I have a couple of other tests to take to rule out problems.

It's been a long time since I posted anything. I don't know if classmates are reading this, so I will do a test to see.

Larry English

Larry English, 70, passed away unexpectedly on May 10th at his home in McLeansville, NC. Formerly from Fayetteville, NY and later Chittenango Larry served in the Marines in Viet Nam. He became President of the Marsellus Casket Company of Syracuse, and later President of Premier Hardwoods of Jamesville, NY. Larry also served on the Board of the Casket & Funeral Supply Association of America, the Revolutionary Trails Boy Scout Council, and he was Board Chairman of the Syracuse Rescue Mission. Larry was a true leader who based his life on helping others personally and professionally.
He is survived by his companion Susan Heiss, son Justin (Michelle), daughter Lindsey (Karson) McGill, grandson Maceo English and many loving relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.

Platt M. Wheeler

Platt Monroe Wheeler, treasured father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, died peacefully at Crouse Hospital on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Born on December 11, 1921, in Utica, NY, Platt was the son of the late Geraldine Walls Wheeler and Nathan Edward Wheeler of Hamilton, NY, the town in which Platt grew to adulthood distinguishing himself as both an excellent student and outstanding athlete. It was during his undergraduate years at St. Lawrence University that he met and subsequently married his adored and adoring wife Marilyn Merrill Wheeler (deceased July 2012). Thus began their 67-year love story - a beautiful model for their children and grandchildren. Platt completed both his B.A. and M.Ed. at St. Lawrence and undertook advanced study at both Cornell and Syracuse University. Their marriage and Platt's graduate program were interrupted by WWII as he went into the US Navy and served as Assistant Gunnery officer aboard the USS Stickell-DD 888, in the Atlantic Fleet. Upon his return from the war, Platt began his professional life as a Social Studies teacher and coach at Voorheesville Central Schools (1946-1948), and in 1948 he started his long and illustrious career at Fayetteville High School, which soon became Fayetteville-Manlius High School following the centralization of the district in 1951. Platt first taught Social Studies and coached and later added Department Chair to his duties, but once again duty called. Platt was re-called by the Navy for the Korean Conflict where he served as a lieutenant from 1950-1952, this time as Gunnery Officer aboard the USS Henley DD 762, another destroyer in the Atlantic Fleet. Platt taught from 1948-1963 when he was appointed to serve in the administration at FM from 1963 until his retirement in 1983. Platt's reputation as an excellent teacher transformed into that of a remarkable school administrator who always had his finger on the pulse of the school, always knew where students should be, and cared deeply for everyone's education, health and safety. He was known by all to be "tough but fair," and many students credit Platt with their graduating from FM. Until his death, Platt remembered students' names, teams' successes, historical facts and so much more. An avid reader, he subscribed to four newspapers and countless journals, and he read his way through the Fayetteville Library where he was both a patron and a board member for several years. It was a bit of a joke that Platt didn't want anything to do with computers, but his history of the formation of the Fayetteville-Manlius District is contained in a blog that is on the internet. In 1956, Platt and Marilyn moved into the home that they had built in Fayetteville and where they raised their five children. In his earlier years Platt gave a great deal of his time to Limestone Little League as a coach and an umpire, served as the Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 51 in Fayetteville, and refereed basketball games for many years as a member of AABO Board 38. They lived very happily in their home for 62 years until age caught up with them and they could no longer maintain the large lawn and home, so Maple Downs became their new home where they made so many dear friends during their time there. In addition to his parents and his wife Marilyn, Platt was predeceased by their son Richard (Gini, Rochester) and his brother Richard Wheeler (Mary Jane, Brewster, MA). He is survived by his daughter Cynthia Manning (John, Jr.) Boxford, MA, and his threeanlius, Cynthia, Boston, MA, D. Merrill, Jr (Sarah Poe) Upper Arlington, OH, Dr. John (Jessica) Fountain Hills, AZ, Jessica Roche (Roger) Rochester, Andrew, Tallahassee, FL, Christopher, Fredericksburg, ,
