Hi Debbie!

Thank you for all of the organization and effort. Regarding your email, here is some feedback and comments:

1. Didn’t know Dave was a musician – look forward to that.

2. Regarding favors, they are not of interest to me, but if this is the preference of others, please let me know what I can contribute.

3. Regarding possible events, I think Jane and I would plan to attend Friday dinner. Saturday breakfast and dinner, and Sunday brunch. I may take mid-day Saturday oi see some family in the area – not sure yet.

I attended FM for only two years but it was a great experience for me and I look forward to Jane attending with me. I have attended a number of her reunions and look forward to seeing many people that I have not seen since high school. Someone may have contacted Robin Adam (Bill’s sister) – thought I would see if she would be interested in attending too. Would that be OK?

When we get closer to the date I will know better what I may be able to assist with regarding equipment.

Regards,
Dave

Wayne Trivelpiece

Hi Debby, It's been a long time since I managed to send you an update on what's happening in my world; part Antarctica and part out here in San Diego. In fact I just returned from Antarctica about 3 weeks ago and now that the Reports are written and the Taxes sent off, I thought I'd take a break and catch up with you and other classmates. I am planning to attend the reunion and look forward again to seeing many old friends come October. Yes, I will send in my reservation and money soon; I'm waiting to see if Sue can attend as well, as after 30 years in Antarctica herself, federal funding cuts may preclude her continued research down South. Our oldest daughter Sara is finishing her Freshman year at Humboldt State U in Arcata, CA and just loves living up there among the redwoods. Amy our 13 year old is nearly done with 8th grade and about to head to Wash., DC for a week long class field trip beginning Thursday. She was really bummed when it looked like the Gov't might shutdown and close all the Museaums. Sue and I are planning to use the "free time" to visit Jim and Marsha Myers in AZ and we can't wait for an adults only weekend. The last time we went anywhere sans the girls was 5 years ago, on a scuba trip to Belize for our 25th Anniversary. Like many of you I too am contemplating retirement, but with Amy still having 4 years of HS to complete before we are empty nesters, I will probably continue working for about that much longer. Besides I have one cool job - studying penguins for a living is more like being on a 35 year nature expedition than work! We also just published a long term research paper that has really perked up the press and rather than try to explain what we do, I thought I'd send along a Google Link that is collating press releases from all over the world summarizing our findings. The paper just came out yesterday in one our most prestigious journals and the response has been unexpectedly huge and very gratifying. It you get a chance have a look at:http://news.google.com/news/search?aq=f&pz=1&cf=all&ned=us&hl=en&q=trivelpieceUntil October stay well and enjoy yourself. Best regards, Wayne

Hi everyone! I am putting the finishing touches on the 2011 directory and need your help. Because I am including senior pictures in the directory, I would like to be able to have a photo for each of you (us). I am missing (or the faces have been written over) the following folks. If you have clear headshots of any of these people, even if it is not a senior photo, please send it to me. jpg files at 300 dpi would be best. If you do not have a scanner, please send me the photo. I promise to scan and return quickly! Thanks for your help. I hope to see many of you this fall in Fayetteville (or Manlius)!

Bill Adams, Bill Agan, Ken Randall, Joan Bettman, Mary Bowan, Rick Cook, Al Clute (mine has writing all over it much like Dave Milan's), David Milan, Amy Jaquith (I know she moved away & may have to settle for an earlier photo), Mike Kurgan, Bix Norman, Bruce Santee, Dave Price, Karen Snyder, Kathleen Swimm, Larry Wassel, Tom Waters. Jamie Steele

Jamieson R. Steele, right, of Morristown's Gateway Museum, discusses several types of bayonets as historical re-enactor and former Army soldier, Luis I. Matos, left, looks on. Getting a peek in the background is Gateway board member and co-chairman of Saturday's opening day festivities, Rich H. Bzura.

MORRISTOWN - To hear a passionate veteran remember his or her war-time experience is enough to make any U.S. citizen appreciate the men and women who fought and died to preserve our freedom.
From verbal history and re-enactors, to service-time pictures and memorabilia ranging from the common to the rare, Saturday's opening day at the Gateway Museum, which included a special World War II veteran's appreciation program, had something for everyone to appreciate.
"Its nice to see the museum, which was once an eyesore, dusted off and now one of the centerpieces of our community," said Gary Alford, Gateway board member and co-chairman of the opening day events.
Patrons toured dozens of exhibits featuring everything from guns and ammo, to medals, uniforms and scrapbooks. Veteran Mike Cousino even brought along some of his handmade diaramas depicting scenes from his tours of duty in Vietnam.

The museum's current World War I, World War II and Korean War exhibits are also on display and were expanded for Saturday's opening day festivities, with the majority of the materials being provided by another Gateway board member, Jamieson R. Steele.
Mr. Steele says he has spent the past 15 to 20 years, "seriously and actively collecting" memorabilia.
"I'm a historian by heart," said Mr. Steele, a Syracuse native who relocated to the Morristown area about five years ago. "First it was old airplanes, then round engines. Then, at an auction many years ago, I bid on what I thought was one military jacket, but ended up getting a bunch."
The rest, as they say, is history. Today, Mr. Steele's collection boasts hundreds of military-issued jackets and uniform pieces, hundreds of pictures, pins, medals, guns, bayonets and other interesting and authentic artifacts.
And, if you talk to Mr. Steele, every piece in his collection comes with a story.
"This one is nine-and-a-half pounds, empty, not counting eight rounds of ammo. Plus they used to jump out of planes carrying these," he said, hefting a vintage, World
War II-era, M-1 Garand. "This won World War II for us," he told Luis I. Matos, a military re-enactor and former Army soldier from Tennessee.
Local veterans like Dick Davis, Charles Foster, Allen Bogardus, Bob Shelato, Arthur H. Colburn, John Lee, and Robert L. Smith were also featured, giving the event some very close-to-home ties. Many showed up in person to meet and greet fellow veterans and others in attendance.
"Its a nice way to kick off our summer season," said Rich H. Bzura, Gateway board member and the other co-chair of Saturday's events. "We have a number of events planned at the museum this summer, and this is just a great way to get things started."

Falling Over Dog -- Not a happy night!!

I am almost fully recovered or - I thought I was. I was at the computer last evening uploading photos from a recent canoe race and my husband puts on and I sneezed. OMG (as they say)!!! I thought my ribs had blown through my chest!! I guess I don't sneeze much and this had not happened even once since my "trip." Wow! Today, however, is a new day and all is well once again. The ribs are still sore but are getting better every day. Thought I'd just pop in to say hi and catch everyone up on my truly excellent progress.

Debby - loved the iPod story - I used to have one and now use my phone . Can't wait to get my g4 in July. Next on my list is an iPad - his and hers would be good as I am not gonna share - no way!!

We gave my old iPod (3rd generation) to our granddaughter's best friend as she didn't have one and doesn't have the means to get one. Speaking of getting out walking - I guess tonight's the night. I have a real problem with treadmills and just walking for the sake of walking. I need to feel that I am headed somewhere and have something to do when I get there - any suggestions? Maybe I could walk to Fayetteville - should get there in time for the reunion. Hmmm - that's a possibility. Can start logging miles tonight - that might be just the ticket.

It doesn't look like I will be able to make the reunion. The date and the travel time around it have too many conflicts around it including my second grand daughter's first birthday. If something changes I'll let you know. God willing I'll be at the 50th...Bob Gwinn

Yvonne(Jodi) Lindsay Truman

Debby - Thank you so much for catching me up periodically about the coming and goings. Unfortunately, with sincere regrets, I won't be able to attend the 45th. Due to my father's health, I have been traveling quite frequently back and forth to Fayetteville and truly, at this point, don't want to make too many commitments. Hope everyone takes lots of pictures etc and posts them at their leisure as I enjoyed catching up. FYI, from reviewing the roster some time ago, did find that one of our classmates lives across town from me here in Wilmington - small world! Much success with this wonderful event! Respectfully, Jodi Truman (Lindsay)

President's Day

I feel challenged

My husband John gave me an Ipod Nano for Christmas 2 years ago for me to use when I walked and exercised. I have not used it. It's been sitting on a charger. Now I would like to download a song and I didn't know what to do. I tried reading the 70 page user guide but it didn't help. I went to Best Buy and was helped by a very nice young woman. My Ipod nano is ancient now. It's 4 x 2 and the new ones are a little bitty square like 1 1/2 x 1 1/2. I started to get very anxious and claustrophobic like life is passing me by and I didn't even know it. LOL I had to get out of the store. It was too loud and too disturbing. I'm still out of sorts. You think you know what you're doing and then you don't.
I went to the St. Louis Bread Co. for a mocha latte and scone. I decided to try texting. I thought I had no need to text but I can see I was wrong. It worked. I typed a short message and got an immediate response from both people I sent to. It was better than talking. I really don't like talking on the phone. I find it awkward.
Feeling better now.

Snow, snow, and more snow! Melinda Mussi Lockwood

Well, it is Sunday, February 6 and we are still here! Last week, as many of you know and many of you experienced, we had a tremendous snowfall. We measured 18" in 24 hours at our house north of Columbia, Missouri. Spent the day Tuesday keeping the deck cleared for the dogs, keeping our "bridge" to Charlie's shop cleared and keeping our path to the woodpile as free of snow as we could.

In the midst of the fun, our son's house sold! All of us were amazed and pleased that it sold so quickly! I guess if your home is well-built and the right buyers come along, you are good to go. All that is left is the inspection which will take place as soon as the driveway is cleared. Amazingly, the gal who sold them their home sold over 70 homes last year even though the market was down. She's just a super competent/confident businesswoman!

My husband, Charlie & I (he is responsible for 95%) shoveled our 150-foot long driveway as the man who normally does our plowing had a problem with his hydraulic system. Suffice to say, we have a single-lane driveway now with a small turn around at the end point which is in front of the Jeep. I have a Pathfinder and Charlie has a Jeep - thank goodness fir 4-wheel drive!

What did we do to pass the time? Well, for starters we made sure our oil lamps were filled and our wood supply was dry. Although we have a conventional heating system, we knew that if the furnace went out (which can always happen in a storm like we had), we would need to rely on our trusty wood stove for heat, cooking, and hot water. Fortunately, none of this came to pass. We sure enjoyed the wood stove anyway.

Charlie worked on canoe paddles (ThetisPaddles.com). He makes and sells canoe paddles with bamboo blades. They're very popular. I read and sewed. Got a new machine a month or so ago and am taking classes to learn the digitizing software I purchased with it so I can created and digitize my own designs. My goal is to "do" a picture of Jason & Katie's new home by next Christmas. I am confident that I will be proficient enough by then to carry out the design. For those of you who sew, I got a Bernina 830. Love it and am happy to report that, just as their motto says, "nothing sews like a Bernina, nothing." The "funest" part of all was that on the day I purchased my machine I had been attending a day-long Bernina event at my dealer's store in Barnet, MO. The event was held for two days with a drawing for a Bernina 210 (entry-level machine) being the grand prize. Well, much to my surprise, I won the 210! I waited to claim it until I started digitizing software class as his shop is about an hour away and I couldn't see the point of driving all that way just to pick up the machine. My granddaughter is the recipient of her first Bernina.

The shop is Top Stitch Sewing in Barnet, Missouri. It is owned by a Mennonite man and is staffed by Mennonites as well. When you walk in his shop, you are greeted by people who are warm, patient, and so kind and very very knowledgeable about all of the machines they sell (Bernina, Tin Lizzy)! Well, Timothy is the largest Bernina dealer in the state and this man is the best salesman I have ever had the pleasure to know. That is how I ended up with an 830!

Great snowstorm! Lovin it and really enjoyed staying home last week. The University of Missouri was closed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - unheard of! Took good advantage of the time to do the things I like to do but never seem to have enough time to do.

Hope any of you who also weathered the storm enjoyed it as much as we!

Our daughter-in-law, Gina and our grandaughter, Ilsa were in a head-on collision about four weeks ago. Everyone's mending. However, Ben, our son, Jerry and I have been quite busy keeping two households running.
In my quiet moments I've read, The Various Flavors of Coffee and The Last Stand of Major Pettigrew. Just started The Help. Can'sleep: read.
My sister, Maribeth retired from the U. S. State Department on January 1, 2011.
Hope all is well, in spite of all the snow, wind, cold, sleet and ice.

Gerry Phillips

Well we don't have the snow but it has been cold (48 degrees) in the AM warming and sunny to 66 on most days. I have been retired from Xerox for almost 4 years and don't miss it one bit. Denise is still employed at Hoag Hospital as she still likes the challenge of Organization Development. We try to get two vacation each year one for us and one with the kids and grandchildren. This year it was Kauai in December and taking the kids to a all inclusive in the Dominican Republic early March.
I spend most of my free time riding either my bicycle or BMW motorcycle and doing projects around the house. Check out Face Book for the latest pictures on the backyard project, should be finished next weekend.
Having survived a couple bouts with cancer (gone now) I keep a positive attitude about life and look forward to every new day. The future, no plan to ever leave Huntington Beach and take time to visit as many exciting places in my bucket list as possible.

Dan Sheedy

Despite all the hype and hysteria, this has been just an average winter in upstate New York. Much like what I remember from our youth. Still, the older I get the less tolerance I have for the dreary, shorter days and the cold. I'll be heading south for a month or so sometime after mid-February. My older son Ben is again auditioning for graduate school. Jonathan, my youngest, will start school again in the fall. Nothing much exciting happening other than that. I hope all is well with you and John.

Just got off the phone with Charlene. She's recently back from spending a week in Manlius visiting with her Mother. We caught up on quite a bit since we saw each other a couple of summers ago.

Now Charlene is off to Florida for 3 weeks of rest and relaxation.
